How Does A Commercial Fire Alarm System Work?

A fire alarm system is able to detect an event that may result in a fire through automatic functions. The fire alarm will pick up a signal from a fire sensor, such as smoke, heat, or carbon monoxide, and then transmit the signal to the fire alarm panel.

A radio frequency is used to transmit the signal from the detectors to the control panel. Then, the fire alarm panel is able to activate the flashers or sounders, turn on the sprinklers, and even make a call to the authorities and/or the building’s occupants. It’s important to make sure you have a working business fire alarm system that will notify all occupants if the alarm goes off so they have the ability to exit the building safely and calmly.

The AHJ is the person or office charged with enforcing life safety code. In addition, the National Fire Alarm Code requires ongoing testing and inspection of fire alarm systems by technically trained personnel.
